Chinese five spice is a blend that is traditionally used in Chinese cuisine, but can be found in kitchens all over Asia and Hawaii. Most commonly used to season meats and poultry, this is also a great blend to try in baking as well. Use 1 tablespoon five spice per 1 pound of meat or poultry.
To make a five spice salt blend, take 1 tablespoon five spice and 1 tablespoon kosher salt and toast over low heat in a dry pan until the ingredients are mixed. Use this as a rub on meat or add to buttercream for a salty and spicy cake icing.
